Pet of the Week

Meet Peyton, the gentle soul who’s ready for his next chapter!

Peyton is a handsome Labrador Retriever/Collie mix with a heart as sweet as his face. He came to TBC as a shy puppy alongside his mom and littermates after living in difficult conditions, but thanks to patience, love, and care, he has blossomed into a gentle, clever, and affectionate companion.

At 4 years old and 55 lbs, Peyton has discovered that walks are one of life’s greatest joys, and he would love a home with a friendly dog to play with and learn from. He’s recently been neutered, rides well in the car, and is always ready for his next adventure.

  • Neutered & up-to-date on vaccinations

  • Loves other dogs

  • Clever, gentle, and snuggly

  • Enjoys walks and car rides

Peyton may have started out shy, but today he’s ready to leave the past behind and find a family that will love him for the wonderful dog he is.

Wanda Thompson Legacy Continues at QISD

The late Wanda Thompson was recently featured in the series, “A Pioneer of Our Community.”

“We celebrate the life of Wanda (Williams) Thompson (1933–2019), a pillar of our community whose dedication to Quinlan is now set in motion for the future. Through the newly established Wanda Thompson Memorial Scholarship, her spirit of service will continue to inspire and uplift the next generation of Quinlan leaders,” stated the commentary.

Her family moved to Quinlan when she started the fifth grade. A 1952 graduate Quinlan High School, Thompson played basketball during her high school years. “Wanda lived by a simple, powerful philosophy,” it continued. l”I think we don’t have a reason to complain if we don’t do something. I have always been interested in making the community a better place to live.”

Mrs. Thompson didn’t just talk about making a difference; she led by example throughout her life:

  • A Trailblazer: Served as Quinlan’s first-ever City Secretary in 1964.

  • A Preserver of History: Founding President of the Quinlan Community Museum and Chairman of the 1996 Centennial Committee.

  • A Visionary: Founder of the Quinlan Art League and a dedicated member of the Tawakoni Library board and Beautification Committee.

  • A Heart for Service: From owning local shops and teaching oil painting to serving at First Baptist Church for over 60 years, her love for Quinlan was evident in everything she touched.

“She believed that when you live in a community, you are obligated to give back,” said a spokesperson. A scholarship was created this year by daughter Sharon Royal and Wanda’s husband Charlie B. Thompson. They established the Wanda Thompson Memorial Scholarship.

The $16,000 scholarship was awarded to 2026 senior Maria Aguirre. z

“Maria has proven to carry that same dedication to our school and our town,” they said.

“Let Wanda’s legacy serve as a reminder to us all: our community is built by those who choose to step up, get involved, and give back. Her entire family is a prime example of just that,” they said.

First recipient of the Wanda Thompson Memorial Scholarship is Maria Aguirre, shown with Sharon Royal and Charlie Thompson.
