Pet of the Week

Meet Cherokee, a new best friend waiting for you!

As Summer begins and our thoughts turn toward helping others, Cherokee is hoping someone will choose her. This beautiful Husky/Labrador Retriever mix has come such a long way, from surviving on the streets to learning trust, walking proudly on a leash, and opening her heart to people who show her kindness.

Cherokee is spayed, house-trained, vaccinated, and wonderful with kids and other dogs. She recently melted the hearts of visiting 6th graders and showed just how gentle and affectionate she truly is. Sadly, she also lost her longtime companion, Charlie, to heart failure, and her own heart could really use some healing right now.

At 8 years old and 62 lbs, Cherokee is calm, loving, and eager to belong. She wants nothing more than a cozy home, steady companionship, and a family to call her own. Her journey is already a success story, now she just needs someone to help write the happiest chapter yet.

  • Loyal

  • Gentle

  • Ready to love again

Wineingers to Host Chamber of Commerce Luncheon

The monthly Lake Tawakoni Regional Chamber of Commerce lunch and fellowship is today (Thursday) at 11:45 am at the chamber office in West Tawakoni.

Hosts this month are Randy and Kelly Wineinger and catered by Ranchero’s Mexican Grill.

Member of the Month is Fix and Feed, and Non-Profit Member of the Month is Quinlan Sports Association - QSA.

Organizers ask, “Please consider preregistering so that we may have a more accurate head count for the caterers.”

Champions return with trophies

Champions are returning from various competitions for QISD students.

Ford High’s Cheerleaders were at UCA Cheer Camp recently, bringing home numerous awards. Varsity Cheer received Grand Champion for camp routine and Superior for cheer and chant performance.

Junior Varsity Cheer brought home first place in sideline cheer and Superior for most improved team. The camp was at Great Wolf Lodge.

Blue, the Panther, captured the judges’ attention and brought home Grand Champion for best overall mascot of the camp. Outside the costume, he’s Eli Attaway, who was asked by UCA to return next year as an instructor. “That’s a special honor,” said Stacy Watson, cheer director.

Lewis Bone of the Panther Band earned a spot in the top high school bands at the Stephen F. Austin State University Band Camp. He placed 6th chair.

He spent the week in rehearsals, percussion masterclasses and performed in a steel drum band. Click here for more photos
