Quinlan ISD employee named Texas’ best
A longtime Quinlan ISD employee was selected the Texas Facilities Professional of the Year last month.
"Quinlan is incredibly proud to announce that Tommy Underwood, Executive Director of Maintenance and Facilities, has been named the BELFOR Texas Facilities Professional of the Year (FPOY)," said Superintendent Jeff Irvin. He was chosen by an independent selection panel from a competitive pool of nominees across the state.
Underwood was formally recognized at last month's QISD school board meeting. There to present the award from BELFOR were Bobby Templeton and Tammy Kleine.
A "boots-on-the-ground" legacy and nominated by Irvin, Underwood's career here began in June 2011. He has since spent 15 years "tirelessly stewarding" the district's vast infrastructure, which includes all campuses, administration building, Lytal Field, the transportation department, technology building, multipurpose facility and the spring sports complex.

Tommy Underwood
"He was instrumental in overseeing the entire addition of nine classrooms at the intermediate school that was paid for entirely out of the district's operating budget with no bond required, helping to save the district millions of dollars," said the superintendent.
"Tommy represents the absolute best of us," said Irvin. "He treats a multi-million dollar renovation and a minor daily maintenance request with the exact same standard of elite excellence."

Fan club seeking donors for park tables
West Tawakoni City Park Fan Club has a goal of providing 32 picnic tables for the park, which will "leave a lasting legacy" and upgrade the current tables.
"We're replacing 32 weathered tables with new, high-quality metal tables," they said. "Your donation includes a custom-engraved metal plate."
There are three tiers offered, which are Tier 1, 10 tables for the Veterans Pavilion, $2500; Tier 2, 11 tables for sporting areas, $2,000; and Tier 3, 11 tables near lakeside up to the point for $1250. “We are getting donors’ input on where they want their tables as well, and all tables will be commemorated with a metal plaque,” she said.
“We are having people make a check out to the City of West Tawakoni and note in the memo line that it's for a picnic table. And one of us can meet you at City Hall or anywhere that's convenient, and we'll make sure you get a receipt from the City for your donation,” she said. Prospective donors may reach them on the Fan Club Facebook page or contact City Councilman Gregg Sprinkel.️
