Welcome In!

On this week’s edition of the Tawakoni Current…An annual observance of Memorial Day was conducted by the three veteran service organizations Monday.

Held at the Veteran's Pavilion at West Tawakoni City Park, the ceremony started with the Pledge of Allegiance and was concluded with Taps. A representative from each service group--the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and AmVets--spoke on the importance of Memorial Day.

It's a day set aside by Congress to honor the service men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice in defending the nation's freedom.

After the ceremony in the park, AmVets Auxiliary hosted a spaghetti lunch at its post. During this time, members presented a program on the Missing in Action and Prisoner of War, where a symbolic place is set at the table and left empty.

Amvets Post 36 Junior Auxiliary President Abigail O’Connell and Sgt at Arms Koltyn O’Connell set the table for the POW-MIA missing serviceman during ceremonies on Memorial Day.

VFW 2559 Auxiliary President Shirley Cheak hands out flags before the Memorial Day program Monday at West Tawakoni Veterans Pavilion. Larry Pare receives one of the flags
