The water temperature is in the upper 80s to low 90s this week, while the lake level is almost two feet down. Largemouth bass are holding tight to main lake docks, where anglers are finding success with jigs and drop shots. Lipless crankbaits fished around rocks have also been effective. White bass are holding on main lake points and shallow humps, with some schooling activity early in the morning and evening. Trolling and slabs have also been effective for white bass. Hybrid bass are biting well on underwater points, with swimbaits and slabs producing good numbers.

With football season underway that also means our Football contest is still continuing.

Contestants will pick the outcome of three games each week as well as a tiebreaker. The winner each week will be given a $15 gift card, and the total score winner at the end of the 10-week contest will win a $150 gift card.

Helena came to TBC just in time. Only one day after being rescued, she gave birth to nine puppies and became the wonderful mother they needed. She loved and cared for every one of them, and today, all nine of her babies have found homes. Now, after giving so much of herself, Helena is ready for someone to choose her.

At 4 years old and 51 lbs, this beautiful Labrador Retriever/Carolina Dog mix is clever, confident, and resilient. She’s house-trained, spayed, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative, great with kids, and good with cats. Helena prefers to be the only dog in the home, which just means she’s ready to soak up all the love for herself after years of sharing it with others.

Nine puppies got their happily-ever-after because Helena was there for them. Now it’s Mama’s turn to find hers.

WEST TAWAKONI — Tawakoni Fire Department’s 5th Annual 9/11 Remembrance Event attracted citizens from West Tawakoni and surrounding areas, creating an incredible gathering of neighbors, families, first responders, local organizations and supporters who came together to remember the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001.
Seeing so many citizens come out made this year's event especially meaningful and demonstrated that the tradition of remembering September 11 continues to hold an important
place in the hearts of local residents.
The 9/11 Remembrance Event provides an opportunity for our community to pause and reflect
on the events of September 11, 2001, while honoring the nearly 3,000 people who lost their
lives. It is also a time to recognize the tremendous courage and sacrifice of the firefighters, law
enforcement officers, emergency personnel, military members, and civilians who responded that day.
An event of this size and importance doesn't happen without the dedication of many people, organizations, and businesses.
The Tawakoni Fire Department would like to extend its heartfelt appreciation to the Tawakoni Volunteer Fire Department firefighters and members who worked to put the event together, as well as the traffic control volunteers who helped make the event run smoothly.
Special appreciation goes to Cub Scouts Pack 517 Quinlan/Tawakoni, Clifford Brister for providing the invocation, and Kathy Rushing for leading the National Anthem.
The department was also honored to have several special guest speakers participate in this year's remembrance including Judge Clay Rankin, Chief Joe Carbajal, Chief John Alderson and Chief Ryan Biggers.

The Ford High School Choir performed at the event, helping make the gathering a meaningful experience for everyone in attendance.
The department would also like to recognize Waldron Electric and Quinlan Florist for their support. Duck Cove’s The Quack Shack and Bill’s Donuts provided refreshments for those attending. Tawakoni Fire Department would like to extend a very special thank-you to the American Legion, AMVETS, and VFW for their support and participation.
The department recognized the Tawakoni Fire Department Auxiliary for all they do and for their continued support of the department and its community events.

“But above all, the biggest thank-you goes to the citizen turnout from West Tawakoni and surrounding communities,” a spokesman said. “Area residents took time out of their day to come together, remember and show their support for the lives lost 25 years ago. Their presence helped make the 5th Annual 9/11 Remembrance Event one of the most successful and meaningful events yet.”
The Tawakoni Fire Department was also grateful for the neighboring departments and agencies that came out and showed their support by bringing their trucks and personnel, including Tawakoni South, East Tawakoni, Hunt County Sheriff’s Department, South Hunt County Fire and Rescue, Merit Volunteer Fire Department and Commercce Ecorps. “Having these departments and agencies participate helped demonstrate the close relationship between our local first responders and the communities they serve.

The Quinlan City Council heard a water rate study at its regular meeting Monday.

The consultant said water and sewer operations should be treated as a business and “right now, your business is going under based revenues brought in and the cost of operations, plus the need for improvements to both sewer treatment operations and water delivery.”

He presented three scenarios or proposed rate structures to bring the city’s bottom line closer to a balanced budget. No action was taken Monday. City Administrator Aaron Adel said the city made an infusion of more than half a million dollars from the general fund to the utility fund to bring its reserve fund up closer to what it should be for the new fiscal year.

The council will be addressing the issue further at its October meeting.

Council appointed Hope Strait to the Planning and Zoning Commission to serve in Place 5 and Ron Moore as Alternate Place 1. Both terms expire in June 2027.

For the city’s Zoning Board of Adjustment, Council appointed Loretta Russell to serve as Alternate Place 1, whose term expires June 2027; and Brinda Moore as Alternate Place 2 with her term expiring June 2028.

South Hunt County Fire Rescue’s Captain Ryan Biggers gave the fire department monthly report. He also said a town hall meeting was scheduled Wednesday regarding the proposed Emergency Services District 2 referendum on the ballot in November. They are also planning a town hall meeting somewhere in the southern section of Hunt County near Tawakoni South Fire Station. He encouraged anyone with questions to contact him or members who are familiar with the ESD.

Police Chief Johnny Thornburg gave monthly report for his department. This will be covered next week, as will be the fire department report.

Week 3 had two firsts in the TTC weekly football contest—one first was Amanda Salters who entered for the first time and got all three games correct. Congratulations!

Second first was a guy made it into the top three. Jerry Ridings came in third place, but he is the first male to get mentioned in the top three.

For second place is Frances Dalbey, who has been either second or third in all three weeks. She may not win the weekly $15 gift card, but she’s definitely in the running for most wins at the end of the 10-week contest, which is being sponsored by Kathy Hobbs’ EXIT Realty.

Remember, entry deadline is 6:00 pm Friday.

The 30th Cotton Patch Challenge will come right through the Tawakoni area Saturday with the Lake Tawakoni Regional Chamber of Commerce headquarters serving as one of the top rest stops for bikers that come from all over the world.

The bicycling tour ride started in 1996 and is currently hosted by the Greenville Rotary Club, but includes various nonprofit organizations serving the area. The chamber invites all who wish to serve at their stop to “come on down,” join us here at the chamber to cheer on the riders.” They hand out drinks, serve as a cooling station and have various treats that bikers can pick up to give them sustenance on the lengthy tour. They usually start arriving at the Tawakoni stop around 8:30 am and riders will be coming through most of the morning.

The West Tawakoni City Council met Thursday, September 10, 2026, for a special session that included citizen comments, approval of consent agenda items, discussion of community events and development, personnel matters, and a budget workshop for the upcoming fiscal year.
During citizen input, several residents addressed the council on matters important to the community.
Debra Carey brought in non-agenda questions concerning the city budget. Dan Benson addressed the council regarding road work on Mays Lane and Duck Cove, raising questions
about the condition and work planned for those areas in the future. Stephannie Barnett addressed the council and presented the August 2026 Tawakoni Fire Department call report, providing the council and community with an overview of the department's activity during the month.
All items on the consent agenda were approved by the council. The consent agenda included August financial reports, Municipal Court reports, the Police Department report, utility billing reports, the Community Development Director's report, Economic Development Corporation minutes, Keep West Tawakoni Beautiful minutes, and other previously unapproved consent items.
Under new business, Council Place 5 Ceceila Irvan brought forward a discussion regarding the possibility of holding a Fall Festival at the City Park. Greg Sprinkle offered his support for the proposal. Council members agreed that additional planning would be needed before moving forward. The matter was tabled for a future meeting to allow those involved time to meet,
develop a strong plan and return to council with more details.
The council also considered a request to modify the Tawakoni Plaza Residential Site Plan. The proposed modification would allow the street within the development to be widened to
accommodate on-street parking. After discussion, the council approved the modification.
Personnel matters were also discussed during the meeting. The agenda included executive session discussions concerning the City Administrator, City Secretary and Public Works Director.
Following those discussions, the council voted to accept the resignations presented and begin the process of hiring new employees to fill the positions. Job advertisements are being placed on the city's website and other online employment sites as the city begins the search for new personnel.

The council addressed a budget amendment for the Community Development Department and continued work on the proposed FY 2026–2027 city budget during a budget workshop.

The West Tawakoni Park Fan Club is working hard to make West Tawakoni City Park a place the entire community can enjoy, gather, and be proud. Through volunteer projects, community events, fundraising efforts and park improvement initiatives, the Fan Club is helping bring new life and new opportunities to city park.

The West Tawakoni Park Fan Club does not have a dedicated website, but they are active on Facebook, where they keep the community informed about upcoming events, projects, volunteer opportunities and ways residents can get involved.

One of their recent projects has been the Flag Retirement Memorial at the park. This addition to the Veterans Memorial will provide a special place to respectfully retire American flags. The project has been made possible through tremendous
community generosity, including donated labor, time and funds.

The Fan Club is also continuing its efforts to improve the park's gathering areas. Six new picnic tables have recently been built and installed, putting the community one-third of the way toward their overall goal of replacing and refreshing the park's picnic tables.

The Fan Club is also looking toward future projects and community events designed to bring people together and make the park a place where everyone feels welcome. Their goal is simple: improve the park and create a stronger sense of community.

Quinlan ISD board of trustees will talk taxes at the regularly scheduled meeting Monday, Sept. 21, at 7 pm.

The agenda states the board will consider and possibly to approve an Interest & Sinking tax rate “that “exceeds the minimum debt service tax rate for Tax Year 2026.” Trustees will then consider adopting a resolution to adopt a tax rate of $0.7324 for Maintenance & Operations and. $0.17 for I&S for a total tax rate of $0.924.

The board will also consider and act on the district and campus improvement plans and board goals.

Under the superintendent’s report, they will get a enrollment report, FHS CTE addition update; discuss future maintenance projects and how to finance them; as well as faculty hires.

West Tawakoni Economic Development Corporation (WTEDC) met Monday at City Hall, where several items concerning the corporation’s leadership, community projects and upcoming events were discussed.

The EDC will be recommending three applicants to the board, which must be approved by the city council. Directors also discussed hiring Melissa Young as the WTEDC secretary and appointing a backup board member to serve in that role when needed.

A Park Grant request was presented by Gregg Sprinkle for consideration. The directors also heard a presentation from Tyler Sudderth with Retail Strategies regarding retail development opportunities.

The upcoming Cotton Patch Challenge was another topic of discussion. Board members talked about selecting directors to assist with the WTEDC table during the event, which is Saturday, Sept. 19. The annual cycling event will begin with check-in at 6 a.m. at Landon Winery in Greenville,
with cyclists expected to travel through West Tawakoni beginning around 8:30 a.m.

The board also discussed appointing a new treasurer following Mari Chumley’s resignation. Chumley is moving forward in her career and will be working for another company.

After nearly a decade and a half of leadership and service with Keep West Tawakoni Beautiful, Dwayne and Mary Hall are stepping down. “A Heartfelt Thank You was given to Mary and Dwayne Hall Mary and Dwayne Hall, who are leaving their leadership roles after an incredible 14½ years of service to Keep West Tawakoni Beautiful and the community.”

They dedicated countless hours to making West Tawakoni a
better place. Their commitment, leadership, hard work, and love for this community have made a lasting difference. While they are stepping down due to health concerns, their years of service will not be forgotten.

KWTB continues its commitment to keeping the community clean, beautiful and welcoming for everyone. At the KWTB meeting Thursday, Sept. 17, at City Hall, members will discussed several community projects and upcoming cleanup events.

They welcome James Ray as its newest committee member this Thursday. The citywide cleanup Saturday was a huge success, thanks to the hard work and dedication of the volunteers who came out to help. These community cleanups make a real difference, and KWTB is grateful to everyone who continues to give their time to help keep the city beautiful.
KWTB is already looking ahead to several upcoming opportunities for residents and local organizations to get involved:
Oct. 10 – Community-Wide Cleanup;
Oct. 24 – Lakefront Cleanup near the boat ramp; and
Nov. 7 – Adopt-A-Highway Cleanup.
KWTB is asking all local organizations, clubs, churches, businesses and community groups to help spread the word and get involved. Keeping West Tawakoni beautiful is a community effort,
Truck or Treat is coming Oct. 31, which will be held at West Tawakoni Fire Station from 5 to 8 pm. KWTB members are looking forward to helping make this a fun event for families throughout the community.
The committee will also continue working on projects such as the Little Free Library, Veterans Garden, social media outreach, and other efforts that benefit the West Tawakoni community.

Lakeview Church’s veteran’s group is going on the road for its next meeting Saturday, Sept. 26, meeting at the church at 8 am and heading to the Lake Tawakoni State Park for a “Veteran Mental Health Awareness Ruck Hike at 9 a.m.

All veterans, their families and supporters are welcome to attend. The program starts at 9 a.m. at the park with resource tables and fellowship; followed by an optional walking portion begins at 10:30 a.m., and returning to the church at 12 noon. There will be no lunch provided and participants should wear comfortable shoes if planning to participate in the walking tour.

VFW to host CASI chili cookoff

Get ready for a day of food, friendly competition and fun at the CASI Chili Cook-Off hosted by VFW Post 2559 in West Tawakoni on Saturday, Sept. 26. Judging begins at 1:00 p.m. Chili cooks will compete for bragging rights and recognition, and the event is looking for judges to help determine the winning chili. Anyone interested in judging is encouraged to sign up ahead. Come out, enjoy some delicious chili, cold drinks and good times while supporting VFW Post 2559 and the local community.

Looking for a way to kick off the Halloween season? VFW Post 2559 in Tawakoni is hosting a Halloween-themed Painting Party on Thursday, Sept. 24, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Guests will have an evening of painting, creativity and fun while
creating a festive Halloween-inspired masterpiece featuring a spooky black cat, pumpkin and moonlit scene.
The cost is $35 per person, and reservations are required. Guests are encouraged to sign up and prepay to reserve their spot.

Country music fans are invited to enjoy an evening of live music when Jody Blankenbaker takes the stage at VFW Post 2559, located at 100 E. State Highway 276 in West Tawakoni. The performance is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 19, with music beginning at 8 p.m. and continuing until midnight.

Lake Tawakoni Regional Chamber of Commerce invites local business owners, community leaders, residents and chamber members to attend the monthly luncheon and Fellowship today (Thursday), from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The luncheon will be held at 100 W. Hwy 276. This month, South Hunt County Fire Rescue will serve as the host for the luncheon and will tell about the organization and the important work being done throughout South Hunt County. The luncheon is more than just a meal. It is an opportunity for members and community partners to come together, share information, build relationships, and learn more about the people and organizations working to make the area a stronger place to live and do business. Poker players and local community members are invited to join the bimonthly Stacy Earls Texas Hold ‘Em Poker Series Thursday, Sept. 17, at Ranchero’s Mexican Grill in West Tawakoni.

Hosted by the Lake Tawakoni Regional Chamber of Commerce, players can participate with a $50 buy-in, which includes $20,000 in chips. Returning players from the July event will receive an additional $5,000 in chips as a special thank-you for coming back to participate. There is also an opportunity to earn even more chips by purchasing an entree from Rancheros after 5 pm. They will receive an additional $5,000 in chips.Those who pre-register and submit their payment in advance will also
be entered into a drawing for a $50-value re-buy. First place walks away with a $500 gift card.

Point Volunteer Fire Department, located 123 Locust St. Point, is holding a family friendly event Saturday Sept. 19. There will be a Tamale Fest, pulled pork and brisket sandwiches starting at 11 am until sold out. Carter Bloodcare will be available from 10 am until 3 pm. Bingo will be from 1 pm until 5 pm. A raffle drawing will be at 6 pm and “Fill the Boot” will be all day.

Tawakoni Halloween Boat Parade is set for Saturday, Oct. 17.
Organizers will release the parade route, registration information and media packets this Friday. All vessels must be registered by Oct. 1 to participate.
Organizers are also seeking 15 to 20 community volunteers, along with sponsors and six to eight food vendors. Sponsorship opportunities will include support for the overall event as well as individual vessel designs.

Proceeds benefit the Auxiliary’s scholarship fund, helping local students pursue their educational goals. Students and families are encouraged to ask their school counselor how to apply for an auxiliary scholarship.

The Lake Tawakoni Regional Chamber of Commerce will host the 2026 iHeart Volunteer and Community Awards on Monday, Nov. 16, at 6 p.m. at Ford High School in Quinlan.
The annual event is designed to recognize the individuals, nonprofit organizations and community leaders whose time, talents and dedication help make the Lake Tawakoni region a
better place to live. The Chamber describes the event as an opportunity to honor the area’s “volunteers, non-profits and community difference-makers.”
The iHeart Volunteer Dinner has become a special opportunity for the community to celebrate people who often work behind the scenes, giving countless hours to help their neighbors and
support local organizations.
The Lake Tawakoni Regional Chamber represents communities throughout the area, including Quinlan, Lone Oak, East Tawakoni, West Tawakoni, Hawk Cove and Union Valley, and works to promote local businesses and regional prosperity.
The 2026 awards promise to be another evening of celebrating the people who give their time, energy and heart to their communities. Tables reservations fill up fast and there’s only so much room for guests, so get those reservations in soon.

Friday night, the Quinlan Ford Panthers hit the road and battled their way to a hard-fought 20–19 victory over the Bullard Panthers! 

It was a game that came down to the wire, and the Quinlan Panthers showed grit, determination, and the will to finish!

The Panthers overcame a two-touchdown deficit to defeat Bullard 20-19 on last Friday at Bullard. The Ford Panthers got off to a slow start and found themselves down 0-13 after the first quarter. Two one-yard TD runs by Tyler Andrews in the 2nd knotted the game at 13-13. The Panthers controlled the action for most of the 3rd quarter but had a long drive sputter at the Bullard 1-yard line. Bullard then proceeded to put together a 99-yard drive to take a 13-19 lead. Another long Panther drive ended with a fumble at the Bullard 3-yard line. The defense rose to the occasion and forced a Bullard punt. The offense took over and was facing a fourth down and one yard to go on the Bullard 17-yard line when Mason Tigue scrambled out and found Skyler Piranio who held on despite a hard hit and managed to get the ball across the goal line for the score. A David Sanchez point after kick gave the Panthers a 20-19. The defense responded again when needed and forced a turnover on downs to seal the victory. Game Balls went to Mason Tigue, Skyler Piranio, De'Marques Locks and David Sanchez.  

TOP PERFORMERS for the game for Quinlan were Mason Tigue, going three of five attempts in passing for 48 yards; 61 rushing yards; and one rushing touchdown; Dylon Fulgham, 84 yards on 11 carries; and Devon Williams, 24 receiving yards and 54 rushing yards.

Two games remain until district play begins, and the Panthers are ready to keep building momentum.

No Friday Night Lights this week! The Panthers will take the field TONIGHT (Thursday) at their home field, Lytal Stadium at 7 pm against Caddo Mills.

THURSDAY NIGHT IS ALSO QSA NIGHT! 
The Ford Panthers will take a moment to recognize and acknowledge Quinlan Sports Association’s players and coaches before the game! Come out and help celebrate these athletes and coaches who are an important part of our Panther family!

The Boles Hornets battled it out Friday night against Honey Grove. The Hornets fought hard, but ultimately fell 54–14.

The Hornets are now 0–3 on the season, but there is still plenty of football left to play! With two games remaining before district play begins, the focus now turns to getting back to work, continuing to improve, and finishing the non-district schedule strong. 

TOP PERFORMERS Friday night were Trystan Thomason, completing 13 of 25 passes for 220 yards and one touchdown, plus he snagged 3 interceptions on defense. Heath Anderton carried 13 times for 26 hard rushing yards and one touchdown. Jeremiah King caught five passes for 101 yards and one touchdown. 

The Hornets are back at home Friday night as they welcome Big Sandy to town! 

It’s time to pack the stands, wear your black and gold, and show these young men some HORNETS PRIDE! 

Lone Oak Buffaloes hit the road last Thursday night, traveling to Winnsboro for another tough battle on the gridiron. The Buffaloes fought hard but ultimately fell, 59–8.

Lone Oak is now 0–3 on the season, but there’s still plenty of football ahead! With two games remaining before district play begins, the Buffaloes have an opportunity to regroup, keep working, and finish the non-district schedule strong. 

Top performers for last week were Colt Bowman, completing five of 23 passes for 51 yards; rushing 16 times for 96 yards; one touchdown, plus one received on defense. Also, Jackson Debord with three catches for 28 receiving yards.

The Buffaloes are back under the Friday Night Lights this week as they welcome the Mineola Yellowjakets to Lone Oak. Come out, fill the stands, and show these young men some Buffalo pride!

The Lone Oak Lady Buffaloes are off to a 3-0 start in district play, and they are showing up ready to battle every time they step on the court! 

Last Friday, the Lady Buffaloes traveled to Quitman and came away with a 3-1 victory! 

Then on Tuesday night, Lone Oak was back home to take on Prairiland. The Lady Buffaloes continued their winning ways, earning another 3-1 victory! 

That puts Lone Oak at 3-0 in district play! What a way to start district! 

The Lady Buffaloes are back on their home court this Friday as they take on Rains. Come out, pack the stands, and get LOUD for the Lady Buffaloes!

The Quinlan Lady Panthers have been battling hard and building momentum as they get ready for the games that matter most!

Last Friday, the Lady Panthers traveled to Tom Bean and came home with a big 3-0 victory! (25-7, 25-22, 25-20) Way to take care of business, ladies!

The JV Lady Panthers also picked up a win, sweeping Tom Bean 2-0! (25-20, 25-6)

On Saturday, the JV squads headed back to Tom Bean for a tournament. JV1 went 1-2, while JV2 also went 1-2. Both teams continued to fight, compete, and gain valuable experience! 

Then came Tuesday night! The Lady Panthers traveled to Greenville Home School and found themselves in a battle. After dropping the first two games back-to-back, Quinlan refused to quit! The Panthers stormed back and won the next two games back-to-back, forcing a deciding fifth game! 

The Lady Panthers fought all the way to the end but fell short by just two points in the fifth game. What a fight! Coming back after being down 0-2 and pushing it all the way to a fifth set shows the heart and determination of this team! (14-25, 24-26, 30-28, 25-23, 13-15)

The Boles Lady Hornets had Friday night off as they prepared for their final non-district matchup on Tuesday night.

The Lady Hornets traveled to Sam Rayburn on Tuesday, battling through three sets but ultimately falling 3-0. 

Now it’s time to turn the page and get ready for what matters most—DISTRICT PLAY! 

The Lady Hornets have a little time to prepare before they return to the court on Friday, Sept. 25, when they will host Cumby for their first district game of the season! 

It’s a new chapter, a fresh start, and a whole new battle. Let’s pack the stands and show the Lady Hornets some love as they begin their district journey!
