Meet Pink!

At about 5 years old, and 50 lb , she is a gorgeous medium sized Shepherd Mix. Pink is everything this incredible breed is known for; smart, loyal, confident, and eager to learn. She’s spayed, up-to-date on vaccinations. Plus she is good with dogs, and children. Pink is ready to find her forever home!

The annual QISD Back to School Fair location has been changed from Ford High School to AE Butler Intermediate School.

Due to unforeseen circumstances with their facilities at Ford High School, “we must move our highly anticipated annual Back to School Fair to a new location. We know this is a busy time of year, and we deeply appreciate your flexibility and understanding. Our top priority remains getting your student prepared and excited to learn, and while our location is changing, our commitment to our families is as strong as ever,” said a district spokesperson.”

A. E. Butler Intermediate School is located at 410 Clardy Drive Quinlan. It will be today (Thursday) from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.

Parking is at the Cannon and Butler campuses. School Bus Shuttles will transport families to and from Cannon and Butler. There will be no through traffic in the bus lane, and no parking available on any part of the bus lane that connects the two campuses. 

Families will enter through the third grade wing to get in line. Look for guides on site. All the favorite attractions are still scheduled. “We are working diligently to make this transition as smooth as possible for all partners. Even at this new location, we are still set to provide:

Registration Assistance and Bus Route Info: Hot Dog Meals and Giveaways; and Health Screenings.

The essential Shot Clinic starts early at 3:15 pm. Immunizations are $30 or no cost for children with CHIP or Medicaid.

The Colgate Mobile Dental Bus is free for children from one year old to 12.

Hunt County Kids will offer school supply assistance.They will have Ford High School and Thompson Middle School supplies ready for pickup. 

All Pre-K through 5th grade students will receive their supplies on the first day of school.

All qualified students who applied can pick up socks and underwear tonight. 

Hunt County Kids will still take paper applications for those who qualify for assistance during the fair tonight.

Free haircuts by the QISD cosmetology classes and local barbers and stylists will not be offered, due to the facility change. “We regret this, but because of the suddent facility changes at the high school, the district will not be able to provide these servies on-site. We were heartbroken at this news. However, when one door closes, this community has a remarkable way of opening two or three more. Our local barbershops and salons are proving once again that we are strongest when we work together.”

A few of our local partners have designed incredible events to fill the need, extending the "Back to School" celebration and helping families outside the main fair event.

Barbershop Partner #1: 276 Barbershop will be offering

276 Barbershop has expanded its back-to-school offering from Aug. 3-8 with “all student haircuts will be complimentary.”

Barbershop Partner #2: Cuttin 'It Up Barbershop & Salon is presenting its own event on Saturday, Aug. 8. They will be offering free haircuts, free hot dogs and hamburgers, free snow cones and free school supplies while they last.

“When you choose to shop locally and support our local businesses, you are investing in the community. You are supporting the people who will always take care of each other in a time of need. Thank you to 276 Barbershop, Cuttin 'It Up Barbershop & Salon, and we know there will be more barber/hair salons to step up. Thank you to the countless other businesses, churches, and individuals who are stepping up to help these businesses provide our students with this invaluable back to school service. City filing deadline are two weeks away to be on the November elections.

West Tawakoni has two council places for full terms and mayor that are expiring, plus a special election for Place 5. Councilmen with expiring terms are Ramsey Lindsey, Place 2; and James “Chemp” Chemplanikal, Place 4. Mayor Chris Burkett’s term is also expiring.

There will be a special election to finish out the unexpired term of Place 5, which is currently held by Cecelia Irvan.

August 17 is the last day to file an application for a place on the ballot. Applications are available at City Hall during normal business hours, which are 7:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Thursday.

The Hunt County Health Department is offering several walk-in immunization clinics throughout August for students entering kindergarten, 7th grade, dual credit, college, or who are new to Texas schools. This is one convenient option for families who still need to meet the state's immunization requirements before school begins.

Those who can be seen are students with Medicaid, students without insurance and students entering 7th grade, dual credit or college who have private insurance. Students will need a printed immunization record, Insurance card (if applicable), cash, or credit card and guardianship documents, if applicable. A parent or legal guardian must be present. The walk-in clinic is at Hunt County Health Department

Aug. 3-6, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm;
Aug. 7, 8:30–11:00 am;.
Aug.10-13, 8:00 am-4:00 pm;
Aug.14, 8:30-11:00 am;
Aug. 17–20, 8:00 am-4:00 pm.

The clinic is closed daily from 12:00 - 1:00 pm for lunch and serves patients until daily capacity is reached.
