Local Stories
Proposed Hunt County Data Center

More than 3000 signatures have been collected from Hunt Countians, opposing a proposed data center project to be located in southern Hunt County, near Lake Tawakoni.
The data center project in southern Hunt County is drawing growing attention as officials and residents weigh its potential economic benefits against infrastructure demands. The development, still in early planning stages, would bring a large-scale facility designed to house servers and digital infrastructure that support cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and high-volume data storage.
Supporters say the project could generate new tax revenue, create construction and technical jobs, and position Hunt County as part of the expanding North Texas technology corridor. Data centers, while not labor-intensive long-term, are often valued for their stable tax base and long-term investment.
However, questions remain around power consumption, water usage, and the impact on local utilities and roadways. Data centers typically require significant electricity and cooling capacity, which can strain existing infrastructure if not carefully planned.
County leaders are expected to continue reviewing the proposal in the coming months, with public input likely to play a key role as the project moves forward.
